Unit Profile: St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s Charlton Campus has the busiest emergency department in Hamilton with greater than 60000 Emergency Room visits per year. The Emergency Department provides early access to care for patients from a widespread area extending from the Haldimand-Norfolk region to the Niagara Peninsula. We are dedicated to providing the best care for patients and any time and committed to serving the most marginalized and needy members of our community. Full Time Support positions will be utilized to cover maternity leaves medical leaves and other long-term leaves. The incumbent may be assigned to cover longer term or short term/episodic needs within the unit.
Position Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who adheres to and models the Standards and Guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario; the SJHH mission vision and values policies and procedures; and applicable specialty standards. The RN provides patient/client-centred and evidence informed care to promote health and assess the need for the provision of care and the treatment of health conditions by supportive preventative therapeutic palliative and rehabilitation means in order to attain or maintain optimal patient/client function. The RN collaborates with the inter-professional team and assumes a leadership role in the delivering a full range of care and treatment to patient/clients including those with complex needs high acuity and less predictable outcomes.
NOTE: Registered Nurses working in the Emergency Department must be willing to work under the authority of Medical Directives for patients with specific clinical presentations. Successful completion of appropriate education and ongoing evaluation are required for this.
