Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a motivated Registered Nurse to join Kitimat General Hospital as a perioperative specialist. The RN will deliver compassionate patient care across scrub, circulating, and post-anesthesia roles within a collaborative interprofessional team.

The role requires BC RN registration (BCCNM), a perioperative specialty program or equivalent experience, and current BLS. Expect alignment with ORNAC guidelines and patient-centered care in a dynamic community setting.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and valid BC RN registration (BCCNM).
  • Completion of a perioperative specialty program or equivalent experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as scrub, circulating or post-anesthesia nurse in the perioperative continuum.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional team to deliver evidence-based care.
  • Ensure safety and quality aligned with ORNAC guidelines.

Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Kitimat General Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.

The Registered Nurse-Perioperative, practicing in a variety of clinical settings, provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical or procedural interventions. Working collaboratively with the interprofessional team, the nurse practices in the roles of scrub nurse, circulating nurse, and/or post-anesthesia nurse, ensuring safe, evidence-based care throughout the perioperative continuum and in alignment with the guidelines established by the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC)

Qualfications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, (BCCNM).
  • Completion of a recognized perioperative specialty program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
Skills and Abilities:
  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area(s).
  • Proficiency in initiating and maintaining Intravenous Therapy (IV).
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Ability to determine and deal with emergency situations, patients, and families.
  • Ability to recognize acuity changes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
