Job summary

Medcan Health Management Inc. seeks a part-time Clinic Nurse (RN) at our Markham location to deliver primary care nursing, immunizations and education.

You will work with a small multidisciplinary team, manage venipuncture, specimen records, and coordinate follow-up care while maintaining a patient-centered approach. You will also serve as Nurse Consultant, guiding patients, providing education and support, and ensuring timely communication of results and next steps.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • 1-5 years of nursing experience.
  • Nursing experience in a primary care environment is essential.
  • Experience with phlebotomy.
  • Current CPR/BCLS certification.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Willingness to work Saturdays and commute to Toronto training.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver immunization and vaccination education and administration.
  • Conduct health assessments and teach cardiac risk factors and nursing responsibilities.
  • Perform core Primary Care Nursing procedures and assist physicians.
  • Administer maintenance medications and manage venipuncture and specimen records.
  • Coordinate patient flow and provide travel clinic education and vaccination.
  • Handle inventory, vaccine cold chain and administrative duties.
  • Educate clients on healthy lifestyles and navigate care pathways.
  • Coordinate follow-up care and scheduling, including results and renewals.
  • Triaging calls and ensuring teamwork for service delivery.

The Role

Medcan is recruiting for a part-time Clinic Nurse (RN) to join our clinic in York Mills. We are seeking an experienced and client-focused professional with a great attitude who can work independently and as part of a team. The role is accountable for the effective delivery of screening and primary care nursing services for clients during their clinic appointments and other Medcan services. This role also includes work as a Nurse Consultant, acting as the main point of contact for patients providing guidance, education and support. The role works closely with a small multi-disciplinary team of physicians and client coordinators to provide timely communication of results and follow up care to the client. This position is located at Medcan’s Markham location at 600 Cochrane Dr.

What You'll Do
  • Immunization and vaccination education and administration
  • Health assessment and teaching on cardiac risk factors, immunizations, and other nursing responsibilities
  • Primary Care Nursing procedures such as ear syringing, dressing changes, suture/staple removal, and assisting the Physicians with basic nursing skills
  • Administration of maintenance medications such as Vitamin B12, testosterone, and allergy serums
  • Perform venipuncture, process blood samples and maintain accurate client and specimen records in the LIS.
  • Monitoring and facilitating the flow of patients through the Clinic
  • Travel Clinic client education and vaccination
  • Administrative duties including inventory and supplies ordering, maintaining cold chain for vaccine supply according to Vaccine Storage and Handling Guidelines
  • Providing clients with education and guidance regarding healthy lifestyle, navigation of the health care system, and support and counseling regarding new diagnoses.
  • Coordinate follow up care for clients including scheduling appointments and providing follow up care such as results and prescription renewals.

What You'll Need
  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 1-5 years of nursing experience
  • Nursing experience in a primary care environment is essential
  • Experience with phlebotomy
  • Good understanding of publicly funded vaccine schedule and travel vaccines is an asset
  • Current CPR/BCLS certification
  • Superior verbal, written and electronic communication skills
  • Experience in travel health, occupational health and pediatric nursing is an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Great organization and time management skills
  • This is a part-time position working 8.5-hour shifts with a 30-minute unpaid break with mandatory Saturday coverage. Availability to work required from Monday - Saturday 8:30 am-5 pm during the week. This role sits primarily at our Markham clinic but requires flexibility to commute to our Toronto clinic at 150 York St. for training periods. Training requirements will be discussed in further detail if you are selected for an interview.
Position Pay Range

Position Pay Range: Pay is determined based on your RN registration date.

  • 1 year: $35.47
  • 2 years: $36.54
  • 3 years: $38.39
  • 4 years: $39.98
  • 5 years: $41.94
  • 6 years: $43.87
  • 7 years: $47.08
  • 8+ years: $50.85

The above figures are an hourly rate. All amounts are in CAD. Pay will be determined based on an analysis of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications within our nursing grid. Medcan's compensation ranges are determined by a combination of required qualifications and skills, market value, and internal equity. The above range pertains solely to the base compensation and is not inclusive of additional compensation details such as perks, benefits, and potential bonuses or incentives.
