Job Description

Are you a Registered Nurse who thrives in dynamic environments and embraces diverse experiences? Do you possess a unique blend of adaptability, clinical competence, and a genuine passion for supporting your fellow nurses? Mount Sinai Hospital's Nursing Resource Team (NRT) presents an opportunity to make a significant impact across various departments while continually expanding your skill set.

Is this you?

You are a highly skilled and compassionate RN who embodies flexibility and thrives on variety. You navigate changing situations with ease, applying your critical thinking skills and clinical knowledge to diverse patient populations. You are a team player, always ready to lend a helping hand and share your expertise with colleagues.

You value professional development, particularly developing a wide range of nursing skills. With this team supporting 9+ different units at our hospital, you'll gain experience with a variety of patient populations and conditions. This enables you to learn a variety of skills that you wouldn't typically acquire on a single unit.

You may also be in the process of deciding on which area of nursing to specialize in. This role allows you to explore different areas of practice such as medicine, surgery, and psychiatry, gaining valuable experience in each. You’ll become a versatile and highly sought-after nurse, equipped to provide exceptional care across a wide range of patient needs. Many RNs find their experience on the NRT to be invaluable in helping to identify a “home” unit that aligns best with their unique interests.

About our Nursing Resource Team

The NRT plays a crucial role in meeting the dynamic patient needs within the hospital. As an agile team, they are dedicated to providing essential support when last-minute RN staffing needs arise, ensuring uninterrupted quality care for patients. The NRT supports various inpatient areas, including General Internal Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, and the Emergency Department. Registered Nurses on this team receive specialized orientation and training to effectively support medicine and surgical units.

In this role you will:

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple units, including assessments, interventions, and medication administration
  • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in responding to changing patient needs and unit priorities
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, allied health professionals, patients, and families to deliver comprehensive care
  • Utilize your critical thinking skills to make sound clinical judgments and provide a high standard of care in diverse settings
  • Embrace ongoing learning opportunities to expand your skill set and maintain current knowledge of best practices
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment, fostering teamwork and collaboration among colleagues
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

Job Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
  • 1 year recent adult medical surgical nursing experience
  • Previous clinical experience working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN). Applicants in their final year or near completion will be considered

Skills and Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge base in:
    • Pain (PCA, epidural, CADD) and symptom management
    • Skin and wound care
    • IV therapy / TPN / chest tube care / ostomy care
  • Commitment to professional practice and personal development
  • Commitment to shared leadership and team-based decision making
  • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to patient and family-centred care
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history

If this sounds like you and you feel ready to build your career within nursing, apply now and let us know why you’d be a great addition to our team.
