Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an experienced oncology RN to support cancer clinical trials. You will identify eligible participants, obtain consent, coordinate visits, administer study procedures and contribute to data collection in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include safety monitoring, adverse event reviews and helping prepare for regulatory audits. The role requires collaboration with Gastrointestinal teams and other units as needed.

Your Opportunity

Join our Clinical Trials Unit and help lead the future of cancer care! We are seeking dedicated oncology and/or clinical trial experienced nurses who want to utilize and expand their knowledge in our dynamic research environment. In this role, you will support the coordination of cancer clinical trials. Responsibilities include helping to identify eligible study participants, obtaining informed consent, and executing study visits—including patient assessments, adverse event reviews, and safety monitoring. You may administer cancer treatments, perform blood collections, and conduct ECG monitoring as needed. You will support data collection and maintain source documentation according to strict ICH/GCP guidelines, complete operational approvals, assist with Research Ethics Board applications, and help prepare for Health Canada, FDA, and Sponsor audits. You will template clinical trials for Connect Care protocol builds and participate in validation sessions. As a central point of contact, you will seamlessly liaise between patients, families, healthcare teams, and study monitors or sponsors. This on-site position features a primary assignment with our Gastrointestinal team, but flexibility is essential, as all positions within the unit may assist other groups or be reassigned as operational needs evolve. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications

• 2 years clinical trials experience.
• Experience with gastrointestinal cancer disease, diagnosis and treatment.
• Experience with the delivery of chemotherapy/biotherapy/cancer treatments, knowledge of mechanisms of action and their adverse event profiles.
• 2-3 years recent nursing experience in Medical/Radiation Oncology.
• Comprehensive patient assessment, management and intervention skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Demonstrated time management and organization skills; flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple patients or projects.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Excellent computer skills and experience using electronic medical charts or patient management systems.
• Applicants must be able to perform tasks that require standing, sitting, bending, stretching, and lifting.
• Patient assistance, pushing and pulling mobile computers or carts, and lifting boxes or equipment up to 40 lbs. may be required.
• Good Clinical Practice, ICH and Health Canada Regulatory training will be required if not current.

Preferred Qualifications

• Baccalaureate preparation.
• Clinical trials membership or certification (e.g., SoCRA, ACRP).
• Preference will be given to those with O-PREP oncology training.
