Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Calgary is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join Unit 46 MTU within Foothills Medical Centre. You will provide comprehensive nursing care to acutely ill medical patients, applying critical thinking and a patient-family centered approach.

The position is Regular Part Time (0.58 FTE) with shifts Days, Evenings, Weekends. Provisional permits attract $40.76–$55.79/hr; full practice permits will be aligned to UNA rates.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
• Currently working on an internal medicine/medical teaching unit of demonstrated comparable acuity.
• Graduation from a recognized nursing education program.
• Proven ability to function in an acute medical nursing environment within the last 3-6 months.
• Current Heart and Stroke BLS-HCP certification.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving solutions.
• Ability to contribute as a team member, learn within a dynamic environment and adapt/cope with change.
• Demonstrated excellent time management and organization skills.
• Ability to manage the job classification of “heavy physical demand” level as per the AHS Job Demands Summary.

Unit 46 is a Medical Teaching Unit with 48 beds whose focus is on care & coordination for acute medical patients and their multi-system complexities. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency with Connect Care and clinical documentation standards. Candidates with previous or current experience on Internal Medicine or another Acute Medicine unit with equivalent Acuity are strongly preferred.
