Job summary

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the CRNA.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical–surgical nursing.
• Recent experience in gastroenterology including endoscopy.
• Knowledge of Gastroenterology Patient Care Pathways and related protocols.
• Experience developing procedures and protocols.
• Strong computer skills: Outlook, Excel, Word, Access; familiarity with Alberta Net Care/Connect Care.

Your Opportunity:

Working under the supervision of Medical Leadership and Departmental Managers, the Registered Nurse position is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of appropriate triage for incoming Gastroenterology (GI) and General Surgery patient referrals according to current Triage protocols. This is an opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our team of nurses, doctors, and clerks to process referrals and allocate priority quickly, ensuring all patients are triaged appropriately.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values.

PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical surgical nursing required.
• Advanced knowledge of gastroenterology diseases, disorders, procedures, and treatment protocols required.
• Recent experience within 2 years in gastroenterology including endoscopy required.
• Knowledge of Gastroenterology Patient Care Pathways required.
• Experience developing procedures and protocols required.
• Knowledge and skill with computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, Alberta Net Care and Connect Care required Demonstrated telephone assessment and triage experience and skills required.
• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time alternating with periods of walking frequently.
• Able to lift and carry 20lbs at a time.
• Able to reach over shoulders with additional weight and bend down to reach with additional weight.
• Ability to work in an often loud and busy environment.
