The Addictions Program is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (6 month), Registered Nurse to work primarily in the DTC (Drug Treatment Court) treatment and housing programs, with some responsibilities in COMPASS (Concurrent Outpatient Medical Psychosocial Addiction Support Service). The Drug Treatment Court Program serves people, referred through the justice system, who experience a prominent substance use disorder and significant involvement with the criminal justice system, due to non-violent crimes which are seen to be related to their substance use. Most clients experience concurrent mental health disorders, co-occurring medical concerns, complex trauma, brain injuries and inadequate access to social determinants of health. The program offers outpatient treatment, court support, supportive housing and intensive case management, within a close partnership with the justice system. COMPASS is an integrated research/clinical service incorporating medical and psycho-social treatment for people impacted by the effects of addiction. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting patients accessing our RAAM (Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine), Fit-In Clinic, Day Detox, Virtual RAAM, group treatment, along with other components of the service..

Role and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be an integral part of a dynamic interprofessional team, committed to a trauma-informed, client-centred, harm-reduction supportive, flexible and values-based model of care. You will be responsible for providing addictions, psychiatric and general nursing care, both at CAMH and in various community environments, including client homes and the courts.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): nursing assessments (substance use, mental health and physical), health system navigation and networking, case management, advocacy, in-home visits, medical and psycho-social interventions, group and individual health education, community accompaniment, OAT education and administration (in clinic and community), care coordination and advocacy with internal and external care providers, providing harm-reduction/safer use education and supplies, monitoring client response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, fully participate in team case conferences and treatment planning, withdrawal management education and practice, working with the court team and attending and supporting clients in court when required, crisis management, ongoing and ad hoc health assessments, communication with pharmacies, providing primary care functions, performing admin tasks such as clinical notes, court reports, medical form completion.

You will practice in accordance with CNO standards, within CAMH Policies and the CAMH Practice Model, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice (CFMHN). and contribute to the security and safety of the care environment. You will be expected to utilize critical thinking, and a solution-focused customer service approach to direct client care. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; engage in knowledge exchange, be willing to develop skills and increase scope, participate in clinical supervision, provide education support and supervision to students and participate and support the research/evaluation activities of the programs.Currently, regular working hours are daily, Monday to Friday but some evening and/or weekend hours may be required.This position is located at the Queen Street Site, with work in community, client homes and court.

The successful candidate must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate. You will have a minimum of two years’ nursing experience. Experience in Addiction Medicine nursing is required. Preferred characteristics include: experience in psychiatric/mental health service provision, possession of or in pursuit of a B.Sc.N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, community/harm-reduction knowledge and skills, case management and clinical assessment skills, experience in/passion for working with marginalized populations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic team environment, possess excellent interpersonal skills, have exemplary skills in developing and maintaining therapeutic rapport with relative ease, display collaborative (with staff and clients) approaches, have sound knowledge of clinical modalities and motivational approaches, understand holistic care in the context of concurrent disorders, display creative and adaptive problem-solving skills, display flexibility, compassion and confidence in effectively and therapeutically managing both routine and crisis situations in which challenging behaviour may be displayed. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds within an Addiction Medicine framework is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
