Overview

Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing excellent care for our residents in accordance with physicians' orders, established standards, and principles, including the Nursing Home Act. Responsibilities include assessing residents' conditions, developing and maintaining individual care plans, maintaining accurate clinical records, and administering and safeguarding all medications and narcotics. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and promote effective communication with residents, families, visitors, volunteers, students, and staff.

  • Provide nursing care according to administrative policies, physicians' orders, established standards, nursing principles, and the Ministry of Long-Term Care Act.
  • Develop and maintain resident care plans through interdisciplinary care conferences and care planning.
  • Maintain accurate and complete clinical records for all residents, ensuring confidentiality according to policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate departmental adherence to corporate policies and procedures, serving as the subject matter expert within the department.
  • Order medications, including controlled drugs and narcotics, and maintain accurate records for all drugs.
  • Administer medications following correct procedures, ensuring proper documentation and ongoing updates.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Post-registration education in Gerontology.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a geriatric setting.
  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Rotation : RN 3; subject to change based on operational requirements.

Infection prevention and control requirements, as outlined by O. Reg. 246 / 22 : General under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, S.O. 2021, c 39, Sched. 1 : prospective candidates must demonstrate screening for tuberculosis and other infectious diseases in accordance with protocols issued by the Director. This includes DTAP, MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B.
