Unit Summary

This position is a multi-site posting supporting all three Endoscopy sites: MUMC, JH, and HGH. The Endoscopy Units provide diagnostic procedures for gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders, including pre, intra, and post-procedure care. The department collaborates with McMaster University’s Center of Excellence in Gastroenterology and serves both local and regional patients, supporting various specialists such as gastroenterologists and surgeons.

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and pediatric patients undergoing endoscopic and radiographic procedures across the three sites. Responsibilities include pre, intra, and post-procedure care, patient education, and participation in research and quality assurance projects.

Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Sunday; days, evenings, on-call availability

Qualifications

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Current BCLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, with critical care experience and ability to monitor cardiac activity
3. Completion of patient assessment training or equivalent experience with advanced assessment skills
4. Recent (within 2 years) experience caring for acutely ill children and adults
5. Recent (within 1 year) experience with sedation, endoscopic procedures, and related equipment
6. Proficiency in specimen management, venipuncture, and IV insertion
7. Extensive knowledge of GI anatomy and airway physiology
8. Ability to wear lead aprons and work in dim environments
9. Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
10. Commitment to ongoing education and professional development
11. Membership in the Canadian Society of Gastroenterology Associates (preferred)
12. Leadership skills and willingness to assume charge role (preferred)
