Job summary

A healthcare provider in Ontario is seeking a Kinesiologist to work with Long Term Care clients. The role involves providing tailored exercise guidance, conducting assessments, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support resident rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will be a registered Kinesiologist with strong communication and multi-tasking skills, ideally with experience in Long Term Care settings. A current police check and valid TB Test are required.

Qualifications

  • Registered Kinesiologist in good standing with the Ontario Kinesiology Association.
  • Experience in Long Term Care or Retirement homes is an asset.
  • Current police check for the Vulnerable Sector is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and prioritize referrals for treatment and services.
  • Perform general fitness and functional assessments for residents.
  • Facilitate education sessions on lift & transfer and body mechanics.
  • Collaborate with physiotherapists for complex case referrals.
  • Develop and facilitate cognitive and exercise programs.
  • Engage residents in their rehabilitation through collaboration.
  • Participate in clinical huddles and communicate client goals.
  • Prepare quarterly reports for the Ministry of Health.

Job description

Overview

We are currently looking for a Kinesiologist (KIN) for a Long Term Care client in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The Kinesiologist will provide customized and tailored exercise prescription guidance and physical activity recommendations based on resident-centered goals through one-on-one consultation and devise an appropriate follow-up plan within an interdisciplinary team.

Job Duties
  • Participate in assessing and prioritizing referrals, ensuring resident(s) meet the criteria to receive treatment and services.
  • Perform and document general fitness, functional assessments and cognitive and/or exercise program progress notes for residents.
  • Facilitate education sessions such as lift & transfer, body mechanics, active living.
  • In collaboration with the physiotherapist, identify and refer complex cases to the physiotherapist for intake, assessment, intervention, and consultation.
  • Develop and facilitate cognitive and/or exercise programs; conduct and document pre- and post-program functional and performance assessments.
  • Effectively engage residents in participating in their rehabilitation; collaborate with the residents to identify priorities, short-term and long-term goals.
  • Participate in clinical huddles, identify and refer to appropriate clinical services and communicate client goals and plan of care within an inter-professional team.
  • Conduct self within the legal/ethical/professional obligations and requirements as set out from the College of Kinesiologists.
  • Prepare quarterly reports and monitor daily statistical data to ensure statistics are reported to the Ministry of Health in a timely fashion.
Qualifications
  • Registered Kinesiologist (Recognized member with the Ontario Kinesiology Association) and in good standing.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate well with the elderly, Physiotherapists/Healthcare Professionals, and teammates.
  • Experience working in a Long Term Care or Retirement home would be a definite asset.
  • Current police check for the Vulnerable Sector is required.
  • Valid TB Test and/or Chest X-Ray is required.
