Social Enterprise for Canada (SEC) is seeking a Part-Time RECE for the Before & After School Program at Maple Leaf Public School in Newmarket. The role supports an inclusive, developmental program with activities promoting health and wellbeing.

The RECE ensures a safe environment, plans child-centered activities, collaborates with families, and maintains records. Candidates should be registered with the College of ECE and bring strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Current Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Early Childhood Educator preferred.
  • Experience planning and delivering an inquiry based emergent curriculum.
  • Experience providing safe and appropriate activities for children.
  • Strong working knowledge of child development theories and practices.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrate morals, ethics and discretion; respect staff privacy.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, staff and the public.
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member with minimum supervision.
  • MS Office experience for reports and records.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering an emergent curriculum aligned with How Does Learning Happen? principles.
  • Supervise children during all activities, indoors and outdoors.
  • Promote inclusion and positive conduct among participants.
  • Apply behaviour guidance strategies to support children respectfully.
  • Respond to individual needs and build trusting relationships with children and families.
  • Facilitate engaging physical and learning activities supporting healthy development.
  • Plan and provide healthy snacks within guidelines and dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain confidentiality when communicating with caregivers.
  • Conduct daily risk assessments and address health and safety needs promptly.
  • Maintain a safe, organized program environment and accurate records.
  • Report program needs to Supervisor as required.

Role: RECE – Before & After School Age (2 Positions)

Reports to: Licensed Child Care Supervisor

Locations: Before and After School Program, Maple Leaf Public School Age Program

Position Type: Part Time, 30 hours per week (7:00 – 9:30 and 2:30 – 6:00 Monday to Friday with additional hours for meetings and non-instructional days)

Compensation: $28.86 per hour (Inclusive of funding provided)

The Opportunity

The RECE ensures the provision of a caring, stimulating and inclusive environment for the children and youth attending the program and is responsible for the development and implementation of children’s programs and will facilitate various activities that promote physical activity, healthy eating and nutrition and positive personal development and wellness. RECE’s are innovative and have strong programming skills as well as excellent behaviour management skills that include problem solving, positive-reinforcement and redirection strategies. The ideal candidate is reliable, punctual, and committed to successful child development.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and delivering an inquiry-based emergent curriculum that reflects the principles of How Does Learning Happen? and responds to children’s individual interests and needs.
  • Supervise children during all program activities, both indoors and outdoors, ensuring safety and well-being at all times.
  • Promote acceptance, respect, and inclusion among all participants, creating a positive and supportive atmosphere.
  • Develop and apply effective behaviour guidance strategies to help children manage their behaviour in a respectful and constructive manner.
  • Respond to the individual needs of children and build stable, consistent, and trusting relationships with children and their families or caregivers.
  • Facilitate a wide variety of engaging physical, recreational, and life-long learning activities that promote healthy development.
  • Plan, coordinate, and provide healthy snacks within program guidelines while accommodating all dietary restrictions.
  • Liaise sensitively and professionally with parents on matters concerning their children while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Conduct daily risk assessments and address all health and safety needs or concerns promptly and appropriately, including following procedures for administering first aid.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized program environment, ensuring equipment is stored properly and in good working order.
  • Complete and maintain all required records, forms, and reports accurately and on time.
  • Report regularly to the Supervisor on program needs, issues, or concerns.
Candidate Profile
  • Current Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Early Childhood Educator preferred.
  • Experience planning and delivering an inquiry based emergent curriculum.
  • Experience providing safe and appropriate activities for children.
  • Strong working knowledge of child development theories and practices.

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment. with all levels of staff, the public and program participants
  • Demonstrate strong morals and ethics, sound judgement and reasoning skills, along with a commitment to discretion and staff privacy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, community agencies and the public.
  • Good organizational, time management, problem solving and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and to effectively perform job duties with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office with the ability to prepare and write reports/records and maintain same
Other
  • This position requires before and after school hours and will require PA Day or occasional evening hours for an open house, training etc.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job including frequent standing, walking bending, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Ability to use various sports equipment used in program.
  • Valid Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Up to date immunizations including a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation is an asset.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
