Registered Early Childhood Educator - Long Term Assignment

Join to apply for the Registered Early Childhood Educator - Long Term Assignment role at Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board.

Location: St. Mary CES, Campbellford
Hours: 17.5 hours per week (PM)
Start Date: Immediately - TBD

Job Function: Work in collaboration with the teacher to plan and implement the Kindergarten program and to maintain a healthy physical, emotional, and social learning environment. Registered Early Childhood Educators work during the regular school day and may also continue appropriate supervision and programming for students in an extended day program.

Responsibilities:
  • Support efforts to integrate faith in all areas of the curriculum, including delivery of the Religion program and participate in faith-based activities and liturgies.
  • Collaborate with teachers in observing, monitoring, and assessing the progress and development of the children in Kindergarten and in communicating with families.
  • Partner with the teacher to plan and implement developmentally appropriate and student-interest driven play-based programming to reach the Four Frames of Learning: Belonging and Contributing, Self-Regulation and Well-Being, Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours, and Problem Solving and Innovating.
  • Assist children in becoming independent with washroom routines, dressing, and lunchtime activities.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, Welcome to Kindergarten Night, and other professional development activities.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Board Policy and Administration Regulations.
  • Provide age-appropriate programming for groups of students as part of an extended day program, including supervision and direction to assistants if present.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, with diverse activities to engage students and build social competence, emotional maturity, literacy, numeracy, and physical skills.
  • Maintain all appropriate records for students (e.g., attendance, health issues, etc.).
  • Set up the classroom (e.g., display, upkeep, organization of materials, etc.) and maintain a hygienic/safe environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  1. Requires O.S.S.D. (plus Early Childhood Education Diploma) with a minimum of six months experience in an educational setting.
  2. Proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
  3. Knowledge of current Ministry of Education Kindergarten Program.
  4. Excellent interpersonal qualities and ability to work as a team.
  5. Experience planning and implementing developmentally-appropriate programs.
  6. Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  7. Basic computer skills.
  8. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  9. Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives.
  10. Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, carrying, and extended periods of walking/standing.
  11. Proven ability to deal with difficult situations and to take appropriate action in stressful or emergency situations.
