Job summary

Hallcon is seeking a hands-on operations manager to coordinate daily field activities and ensure safe, timely transportation for our customers. You will lead site supervisors and drivers, manage staffing, and drive training initiatives while upholding safety and compliance across multiple locations.

In this on-site role, you will monitor performance, coach staff, handle incident responses, and collaborate with Fleet and Field Operations to optimize service delivery in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 2 years Management experience in transportation, logistics or similar industry.
  • Knowledge of Employment Law.
  • Have a clear understanding of the English language.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Valid Driver's License with no more than 2 moving violations in 3 years; no recent alcohol/drug convictions.
  • Clean Controlled Substance Screen.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, spreadsheets, word processing preferred.
  • Willingness to travel regionally up to 75% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations across assigned locations to ensure safe, timely, and dependable transportation service.
  • Ensure locations are appropriately staffed and scheduled to maximize vehicle utilization, service coverage, and customer satisfaction seven days per week.
  • Maintain adequate relief-driver coverage and ensure road and yard assignments support operational demand and required employee time off.
  • Provide direct road or yard driving support when necessary to maintain service continuity, subject to licensing and qualifications.
  • Partner with Field Operations and other internal teams to resolve service issues and support regional business needs.
  • Lead, coach, and hold accountable Site Supervisors, Location Supervisors and Drivers.
  • Hire, onboard, and train employees in job responsibilities, company policies, safety expectations, and customer service standards.
  • Monitor performance and provide timely coaching, counseling, recognition, and corrective action in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Maintain open communication with employees and regularly meet with supervisors and drivers regarding service, safety, and operational priorities.

Role Overview

Responsible for the daily coordination of field operational issues to ensure safe and timely transportation service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure employee records, payroll-related documents, and other required personnel paperwork are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Champion the company’s safety culture and support safety goals through audits, staffing practices, training, vehicle readiness, and consistent follow-through.
  • Ensure required safety training is completed on time and reinforce safe work practices across all assigned locations.
  • Ensure accidents and injuries are reported immediately and that the Manager’s First Report of Accident is completed and submitted within 24 hours.
  • Coordinate required documentation for workers’ compensation claims and other incident-related processes.
  • Conduct operational and safety audits and address identified gaps through corrective action and follow-up.
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, safe, and maintained in accordance with company policies and customer expectations.
  • Audit monthly inspection logs completed by local operations personnel and conduct periodic physical vehicle inspections.
  • Complete required semi-annual vehicle inspections within established timelines.
  • Communicate with the Fleet Department regarding maintenance concerns, repair priorities, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate vehicle repairs in partnership with Fleet, balancing safety, service needs, cost, and operational impact.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customer field leadership, including superintendents, trainmasters, safety officers, and other key contacts.
  • Provide timely communication regarding staffing, safety, service performance, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Represent Hallcon professionally and respond to customer concerns with urgency, sound judgment, and accountability.

Work Environment

Hallcon Crew Transportation is a 24 hour, 7 days a week operation. Employees may be scheduled to work weekends, holidays and overtime as need to ensure that our clientele receives the highest level of service. This position works on an on-call basis.
