In accordance with the established vision, mission, values and strategic priorities of the organization, the Regional Director, Surgical Operations is a member of the Prince George Leadership Team and is accountable to the Senior Operating Officer, Prince George for the successful delivery of all surgical service operations within Northern Health. The Regional Director provides senior leadership and direction to all sites and programs within surgical services to achieve clinical benchmarks and outcomes within best practice guidelines ensuring high-quality services for the patients we serve. The Regional Director works with key stakeholders and partners across multiple sites to develop, implement, and assess the surgical program components and its outcomes. The Regional Director works in formal partnership (i.e., dyad relationship) with the physician leaders in the service delivery area.

The salary range for this position is $158,434 (min) to $198,042 (midpoint) to $237,651 (max) per annum, based on 1.0 FTE. Northern Health typically establishes salaries within the minimum and midpoint of the salary range based on qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

Qualfications

• A Master's degree in a health, business or related discipline plus a minimum of fifteen (15) years of clinical and leadership experience in large, complex, adaptive health organizations or an equivalent combination of education, training & experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Broad knowledge of tertiary and regional surgical services delivery models, including inpatient, ambulatory, and perioperative services across multiple sites.
• Advanced understanding of health system integration, including the interdependencies between surgical programs, critical care, diagnostic services, access and flow, and community-based care.
• Knowledge of organizational governance, health system funding, and performance frameworks, including quality, patient safety, and fiscal stewardship principles within a publicly funded health system.
• Understanding of clinical operations leadership structures and the design of scalable, sustainable service models across geographically dispersed environments.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and system-level leadership across a complex, multi-site portfolio, aligning services with organizational priorities and population health needs.
• Strong capability in leading through layers of leadership, enabling directors, managers, and clinical leaders to deliver consistent, high-quality care across sites.
• Highly developed relationship management and influencing skills, including the ability to work in co-leadership models with medical staff and to build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to lead large-scale change and system transformation, including service redesign, integration initiatives, and implementation of regionally coordinated models of care.
• Strong financial and operational acumen, including oversight of significant budgets, resource allocation decisions, and performance monitoring at a system level.
• Exceptional communication and executive presence, with the ability to translate complex operational issues into clear strategic direction.
• Ability to set and execute a strategic vision for surgical services that balances regional consistency with local operational realities.
• Ability to lead in ambiguity and complexity, making informed decisions in a dynamic, high-demand healthcare environment.
• Ability to drive accountability and performance through clearly defined expectations, measurement frameworks, and continuous improvement approaches.
• Ability to foster a culture of collaboration, cultural safety, and respect, supporting engagement across interdisciplinary teams and diverse communities.
• Ability to anticipate system pressures and proactively plan, ensuring sustainable access, patient flow, and service delivery across the surgical continuum.
