Job Summary :

Reports to the manager, the Refrigeration Technician Journeyman will be responsible for commercial installation, testing, and balancing of energy management systems, including refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, and cold storage facilities. The position may also be required to oversee project execution in accordance with established deadlines and budgetary restrictions. Refrigeration equipment includes refrigerated shelving units, coolers with glass doors, bunker-style units, and walk-in refrigerators. Installation may be at new construction sites or involve removing and replacing existing refrigeration equipment.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Install, program, and test control systems for HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting controls in grocery and cold storage environments.
  • Install soldered copper pipes, including configuring 90-degree, 45-degree fittings, and diagnosing water-leak complaints. Remove cases from trucks without damage.
  • Install PVC drainpipes, recognize major case types, locate and set superheat specifications, uncrate and hang blower coils properly, install thermostatic expansion valves.
  • Locate refrigeration leaks, fabricate hangers, supports, and supports, identify pipe sizes and fittings by sight, power wash air-cooled condensing units, and layout complex coolers.
  • Coordinate job setup, including sourcing and securing required equipment, resources, and travel requirements.
  • Adhere to all work safety policies and procedures, including OSHA and local regulations.
  • Follow applicable building and safety codes during installation of equipment and controls.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, building owners, contractors, subcontractors, and field staff to ensure efficient project completion and minimal pipe interruption.
  • Ensure timely completion of projects and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain and manage truck inventory accurately and adhere to vehicle maintenance guidelines (if applicable).
Qualifications :
  • Successful completion of advanced level (Block 4) courses plus at least 8000 hours of relevant work experience.
  • Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Certification with Interprovincial Red Seal preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years in commercial refrigeration, supermarket experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems and computer-controlled systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 60 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs, frequent overhead work, working at high elevations, ladder climbing, and outdoor work.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends.
  • Travel throughout the Atlantic provinces.
  • Intermediate Windows experience (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred.
  • Essential skills include brazing, mechanical aptitude, blueprint interpretation, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
