Job summary

Niagara Health is seeking an experienced Refrigeration and HVAC Mechanic to operate and maintain hospital refrigeration units and building systems. You will perform maintenance, repairs, tests and installations in accordance with CSA, TSSA and safety standards.

The role involves coordinating with building automation, responding to work orders, and working with a multidisciplinary team to ensure reliable patient care environments. Weekend rotations and inter-site travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Ontario Certificate of Qualification for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic for Industrial Refrigeration.
  • Hold a valid and up-to-date Ozone Depletion Prevention card.
  • 5 years related experience in refrigeration and HVAC for hospitals.
  • Experience with building automation systems and troubleshooting HVAC controls.
  • Strong knowledge of safety requirements and codes.

HOURS OF WORK: 75 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD; MONDAY TO FRIDAY WITH WEEKEND ROTATION

UNION: SERVICE EMPLOYEE'S INTERNATIONAL UNION-SERVICE

WAGE RANGE: $34.325 to $36.132 per hour

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Reporting to the Facilities Site Supervisor, the incumbent works as part of the Engineering Services team to operate and maintain hospital refrigeration units and building HVAC systems for Niagara Health in optimal, safe working order in accordance with, CSA and TSSA Standards, Building and Fire Codes and other related legislated requirements. Repairs, maintains, tests and installs refrigeration equipment, HVAC equipment and controls and other equipment throughout the sites. Perform preventative maintenance tasks and other general maintenance duties as assigned. Works closely with building automation and computerized maintenance management systems. Ability to work with team members to meet deadlines and solve problems under minimal supervision. Contributes to continuous quality improvement and service excellence. The incumbent interacts via pager, phone, verbal and written work orders with all department levels, contractors and internal customers. Must conform to all safety policies and procedures. This position is primarily a day shift with afternoon and weekend shift rotation. This position may include assignments or relocation to other sites within Niagara Health.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum grade 12 or equivalent
  • Ontario Certificate of Qualification for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic for Industrial Refrigeration
  • Hold a valid and up-to-date Ozone Depletion Prevention card
  • 5 years related experience including routine service and repair of refrigeration equipment, operation and maintenance of hospital building equipment, furnishings, plumbing and electrical fixtures to ensure proper and safe working order
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, maintain and service HVAC controls in conjunction with building automation systems
  • Experience and training on building automation systems such as Optimira, Siemens, Honeywell, Johnson
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and calculate material and equipment requirements
  • Working knowledge of legislated safety requirements, codes, standards, and regulations
  • Able to perform a variety of building repair and maintenance assignments as required
  • Working knowledge of computers and software applications
  • Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, judgment, critical thinking, trouble shooting and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Valid drivers' license and access to vehicle for inter-site travel
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
