Shannex Incorporated in Halifax, Nova Scotia is seeking a Recreation Programmer to join the Maplestone Enhanced Care team. You will plan, implement and evaluate programs addressing physical, social, cultural, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of residents.

Ideal candidates hold a two-year post-secondary diploma in Recreation/Leisure Studies, current CPR and First Aid, and strong communication and record-keeping skills, with the ability to supervise volunteers and adapt activities to

Qualifications

• Two-year post-secondary diploma in Recreation/Leisure Studies.
• CPR and First Aid certification required (current).
• Basic Food Safety Training/ Food Handlers Course.
• Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check when applicable.
• Class 4 Driver’s License if clients are transported by facility vehicle.
• Knowledge of recreation program techniques and equipment for therapeutic settings.
• Understanding of human behaviour related to recreational needs.
• Strong computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
• Ability to maintain records for recreation programs.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Shows initiative and works with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Plans, implements and evaluates internal and external recreation programs.
• Conducts programs for large groups, small groups, and one-to-one.
• Collaborates with clients and families to meet expectations and needs.
• Communicates effectively with clients, families and team members.
• Maintains client safety and privacy while promoting independence.
• Prepares rooms and equipment for activities and cleans up.
• Motivates client participation and community involvement.
• Documents progress evaluations and reports as required.
• Assists in training, supervision and evaluation of volunteers and placements.
• Promotes safety culture and adherence to procedures.
