Job summary

AgeCare Ltd. in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a Recreation Therapist to assess, plan, implement and evaluate recreation therapy programs that use leisure to support functional ability, health, and quality of life for residents.

You will develop individualized goals, communicate with residents and families, guide Therapy Aides, ensure timely documentation, and participate in Interdisciplinary Team meetings; a Bachelor's degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Eligibility for registration with a provincial Therapeutic Recreation regulatory body.
  • Healthcare setting experience preferred; gerontology is a plus.
  • Experience completing resident assessments and MDS documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Recent Vulnerable Sector Check / Criminal Record Check or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Complete resident assessments to identify needs, interests, strengths and abilities.
  • Develop and implement individualized recreation therapy goals and plans.
  • Promote meaningful participation in programs to enhance quality of life.

**The Opportunity**The Recreation Therapist assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates recreation therapy programs for residents. This role uses recreation and leisure to support improved functional ability and to promote optimal health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals living with illness or disabling conditions, in accordance with AgeCare policies and procedures.**What You Will Do*** Complete resident assessments to identify individual needs, interests, strengths, and abilities within the facility and community.* Develop and implement individualized recreation therapy goals and treatment plans, and communicate them effectively with residents, families, and the Interdisciplinary Team.* Promote and support meaningful participation in recreation and leisure programs that enhance quality of life.* Provide guidance and direction to Recreation Therapy Aides in the delivery of both individual and group programming.* Ensure timely, accurate documentation of assessments, progress notes, and charting in accordance with AgeCare policies and procedures.* Share resident progress, engagement, and program recommendations during Interdisciplinary Team meetings.* Contribute to the planning, coordination, and ongoing evaluation of recreation programs and available resources.**What You Bring*** Completion of a Bachelor's degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy from an accredited college or university.* Eligibility for registration with a relevant provincial Therapeutic Recreation regulatory or professional association (where applicable).* Previous experience in a healthcare setting as a Recreation Therapist is preferred; experience in gerontology is considered an asset.* Experience completing resident assessments and working with MDS documentation.* Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment.* Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with residents, families, and colleagues.* Must be able to provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, or be willing to obtain one.**What We Offer*** Great Pay & Benefits: Competitive salary with health benefits and paid time off.* Career Growth: Opportunities for training, education, and advancement.* Supportive Culture: A diverse and inclusive team where everyone is valued.* Meaningful Work: Make a real impact on our residents' lives.* Community Feel: Build strong connections with colleagues.* Recognition: Your hard work is celebrated and rewarded.**About AgeCare**For over 25 years, AgeCare has been dedicated to creating vibrant and supportive communities, providing high-quality care and fostering meaningful connections.
