Job summary

AgeCare Dawson in Chestermere, AB, is seeking a Recreation Therapist to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate therapy programs that enhance residents’ function, health, and quality of life.

You will work with residents, families, and an interdisciplinary team; provide guidance to Recreation Therapy Aides; document assessments and progress; and help plan ongoing recreation services. Requires a Bachelor’s or Diploma in Recreation Therapy and eligibility for provincial registration.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy.
  • Eligibility for registration with a provincial Therapeutic Recreation regulatory or professional association (where applicable).
  • Previous healthcare experience as a Recreation Therapist is preferred; gerontology is an asset.
  • Experience completing resident assessments and working with MDS documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with residents, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Complete resident assessments to identify needs, interests, strengths and abilities.
  • Develop and implement individualized recreation therapy goals and treatment plans, and communicate them with residents, families and the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Promote and support meaningful participation in recreation programs to enhance quality of life.
  • Provide guidance and direction to Recreation Therapy Aides in delivering both individual and group programming.
  • Ensure timely, accurate documentation of assessments, progress notes, and charting.
  • Share resident progress and program recommendations during Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
  • Contribute to planning, coordination and ongoing evaluation of recreation programs and resources.

The OpportunityThe Recreation Therapist assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates recreation therapy programs for residents.
