Job summary

City of Burnaby's Golf Burnaby Golf Courses seek a Recreation Leader to oversee evening operations, lead programs, and supervise staff and volunteers. You will plan day-to-day golf and recreation activities, manage safety, and respond to guest concerns.

The role requires a two-year college program or PGA of Canada certification with golf facility experience; first aid/CPR is desirable, and a valid BC driver’s license is required. Evening shifts and cash handling may be involved.

Job description

This position works in the Golf - Operations organizational unit. This is recreation leadership work implementing a variety of social, cultural and recreational activities at Golf Burnaby Golf Courses, including evening leadership on assigned shifts and responsibility for the operation and security of the facility in the absence of a supervisor. The Recreation Leader prepares and leads individual program plans and schedules for day to day operations of the golf course, including assigned evening shifts, and for indoor/outdoor supervised activities including golf lessons, range programming, group activities and tournaments. Duties are performed within established program guidelines, but some independent action and initiative is exercised. The incumbent prepares and leads individual program plans; reviews program offerings and makes recommendations as to new programs; promotes interest and participation in program activities; establishes and maintains close liaison with community groups and the general public. Participates in the recruitment of and gives guidance and instruction to part-time recreation program, auxiliary staff and contract instructors engaged in instructional or leadership tasks; recruits, trains, directs and evaluates volunteers. Prepares and maintains records, activity reports, schedules , requisitions and maintains equipment and supply inventories. Enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behaviour and safety are maintained, including during high-volume evening operations. The incumbent provides on-site evening leadership on assigned shifts, and supports staff in responding to guest concerns, incidents and escalations. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a two year program from a recognized Community College, and sound related recent golf facility experience; or completion of recognized golf industry certification such as PGA of Canada and some college coursework, plus sound related recent golf facility experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and related recent golf facility experience. First Aid and CPR C Certificates are desirable. Have sound knowledge of golf facility operations, program implementation, and the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work performed; ability to provide guidance to part-time staff, auxiliary staff and instructors; ability to organize, coordinate and lead program activities; ability to enforce rules, safety procedures and behaviour expectations with facility users; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and ability to prepare and maintain records, reports and promotional material related to the work. Experience completing closing procedures, securing a facility or assigned work area, and completing cash-out or point-of-sale closing procedures without direct on-site supervision is preferred. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.

Schedule: 70 hoursbi-weekly; Wednesday to Sunday from 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM (mutual agreementbetween Monday to Sunday, 5:00 AM – 12:00 AM)
