Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is seeking a Recreation Assistant/Driver in Surrey, BC. This permanent full-time position involves guiding recreational activities and driving residents to events and appointments. The role requires a post-secondary diploma in recreation or related field, a valid Class 4 license, and a clean driving record.

You will support team goals, monitor resident engagement, and maintain records. Valid Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Records checks are required.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, leisure studies, kinesiology, gerontology or related field.
• Valid Class 4 or equivalent Driver's Licence.
• Clean driving record must be provided.
• Experience working with seniors and understanding motivation concepts.
• Understanding of leisure principles.
• Computer proficiency essential.
• Must pass Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check.

Responsibilities

• Drive the company vehicle to take residents on bus trips, shopping, and outings.
• Assist in developing and revising departmental procedures and programs under supervision.
• Set up activity areas and transport residents to/from programs when required.
• Monitor residents' interests, needs and progress.
• Maintain program and resident records; report participation and feedback to the Team Leader.
• Promote social interaction by leading activities and helping new residents settle in.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Recreation Assistant/Driver is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

Typical Responsibilities

• Driving the company vehicle to take residents for bus trips, shopping, restaurants, and special bus outings to surrounding areas.
• Participating in the development and revision of departmental procedures and programs under the guidance of the Team Leader.
• Setting up the activity area as necessary and assisting in transporting residents to and from programs, if required.
• Assisting in monitoring the residents' interests, needs and progress.
• Maintaining program and resident records according to departmental policies. Regularly reports participation and feedback by residents to the Team Leader.
• Promoting social interaction among residents by assuming leadership of assigned activities or special events, assists new residents with orientation to the building and to the recreation program, and introduces them to the others within the residence and promoting conversation and social interaction among residents.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves

• A post‑secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an indigenous Institute, private career college, college of applied arts and technology, another degree granting Institution or equivalent work experience working with seniors.
• Valid Class 4 or equivalent Driver's License.
• Clean driving record must be provided.
• Experience in working with seniors including an understanding of motivation concepts with seniors.
• Understanding of leisure principles.
• Computer proficiency.
• All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check.
