Job summary

Granite Ridge Community- Stittsville, Ottawa is seeking a Recreation Aide to engage residents through activities, assist with transportation, and support program setup. This role emphasizes building connections and promoting social interaction among residents.

Applicants should have a post-secondary diploma in recreation or related field, experience with seniors, and computer proficiency. A valid driver’s license is preferred to support transportation needs within the residence.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and revising activity programs under the guidance of the Team Leader.
• Set up the activity area and assist in transporting residents to and from programs.
• Assist in monitoring residents' interests, needs and progress.
• Maintain program and resident records according to departmental policies; regularly report participation and feedback.
• Promote social interaction by leading activities or events; orient new residents and foster conversation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Recreation Aide is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As an Recreation Aide your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Participating in the development and revision of departmental procedures and programs under the guidance of the Team Leader.
• Setting up the activity area as necessary and assisting in transporting residents to and from programs, if required.
• Assisting in monitoring the residents' interests, needs and progress.
• Maintaining program and resident records according to departmental policies. Regularly reports participation and feedback by residents to the Team Leader.
• Promoting social interaction among residents by assuming leadership of assigned activities or special events, assists new residents with orientation to the building and to the recreation program, and introduces them to the others within the residence and promoting conversation and social interaction among residents.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

• A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an indigenous Institute, private career college, college of applied arts and technology, another degree granting Institution or equivalent work experience working with seniors.
• Experience in working with seniors including an understanding of motivation concepts with seniors.
• Understanding of leisure principles.
• Computer proficiency.
• Valid driver’s license. (Class F, or provincial equivalent, if you need to drive a bus).
