Job summary

Sienna Senior Living in Ottawa is seeking a Recreation Aide for Granite Ridge Community—Stittsville, to support residents through engaging activities and social programs. You will help set up activities, transport residents as needed, monitor interests and progress, and maintain records while promoting teamwork and warm interactions with residents and staff.

Must have a post-secondary diploma in recreation/gerontology or related field, experience with seniors, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Computer proficiency.
• Valid driver’s license (Class F or provincial equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Participate in development and revision of departmental procedures and programs under supervision.
• Set up activity areas and assist in transporting residents to and from programs as required.
• Assist in monitoring residents' interests, needs and progress.
• Maintain program and resident records according to departmental policies; report participation and feedback to Team Leader.
• Promote social interaction among residents by leading activities or events; assist new residents with orientation and introductions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Recreation Aide is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As an Recreation Aide your typical day will impact in the following ways:

• Participating in the development and revision of departmental procedures and programs under the guidance of the Team Leader.
• Setting up the activity area as necessary and assisting in transporting residents to and from programs, if required.
• Assisting in monitoring the residents' interests, needs and progress.
• Maintaining program and resident records according to departmental policies. Regularly reports participation and feedback by residents to the Team Leader.
• Promoting social interaction among residents by assuming leadership of assigned activities or special events, assists new residents with orientation to the building and to the recreation program, and introduces them to the others within the residence and promoting conversation and social interaction among residents.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

• A post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an indigenous Institute, private career college, college of applied arts and technology, another degree granting Institution or equivalent work experience working with seniors.
• Experience in working with seniors including an understanding of motivation concepts with seniors.
• Understanding of leisure principles.
• Computer proficiency.
• Valid driver’s license. (Class F, or provincial equivalent, if you need to drive a bus).
