Job summary

Bayview Seniors Community in White Rock, BC, is seeking an Activities Assistant to lead and adapt group and one-to-one recreation for residents in Long Term Care and Memory Care. You will collaborate with the Life Enrichment team to tailor activities to each resident's abilities and preferences, ensuring meaningful daily life.

This casual role requires flexibility to cover various shifts, with a focus on compassionate care and engagement for seniors living with dementia or cognitive changes.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in recreation, therapeutic recreation, leisure studies, activity assistant or gerontology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification, or willingness to obtain before your first shift
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check under the BC Criminal Records Review Act
  • Ability to meet Ministry of Health immunization and TB screening requirements for residential care
  • Strong verbal communication skills and comfort speaking with seniors, families and team members
  • Physical ability to set up program equipment, assist with wheelchairs and remain active throughout a shift
  • Availability for weekend and statutory holiday shifts

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist with daily recreation and life enrichment programs that support residents' physical, emotional, social, cognitive and spiritual wellbeing
  • Set up and prepare program spaces, materials and equipment, and reset afterward
  • Provide one-to-one visits and small group engagement for residents who are unable to join larger programs
  • Build relationships with residents and learn their personal histories, preferences and abilities, and share what you learn with the team
  • Escort and support residents to and from programs, outings and appointments
  • Assist with outings and community transportation, including passenger safety and comfort
  • Document resident participation and observations accurately and on time
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, communicating changes in resident mood, behaviour or ability to nursing staff
  • Support volunteers and family members participating in programs
  • Reflect Bayview's culture and C.A.R.E. values in every interaction

About the Role

We are seeking a warm, energetic and hands-on Activities Assistant to help deliver recreation and social programs that make daily life meaningful for residents in our Long Term Care and Memory Care neighbourhoods. You will work alongside our Activities and Life Enrichment team, leading group and one-to-one programs, and adapting activities so that every resident can take part at their own level.

This is a casual position. Hours vary based on program needs and coverage requirements.

What You Will Do

What You Bring

Required

Assets
  • One or more years of recreation programming or volunteer experience with seniors
  • Coursework or training in gerontology, aging or dementia care
  • Class 4 driver's licence, or willingness to obtain one
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • A second language spoken in our community
  • Musical, artistic or other creative skills you would enjoy sharing
