Job summary

A health services organization in Charlottetown seeks a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant to conduct and oversee therapeutic recreational activities for residents. The role involves both group and individual programming to enhance residents' quality of life. Job description

This position assists in the provision of a comprehensive program of therapeutic recreational activities for residents/ patients in various levels of care. Conduct programs of a social, physical, psychological, and spiritual nature to maintain and enhance resident’s quality of life.

Duties will include:
  • prepare, conduct for small, large group, and individual programs indoors, outdoors and/or in the community.
  • prepare resources for particular program.
  • encourage and motivate residents to attend and participate in recreational programs.
  • direct and supervise volunteers to assist in the enhancement of resident’s quality of life;
  • initially assess residents in order to design programs to meet the needs of each individual and re¿assess if necessary.
  • promote and secure a stimulating atmosphere for groups and individuals.
  • adapt and modify programs to meet ever-changing needs of residents
  • maintain records and evaluate programs in accordance with continuous quality improvement
  • assist in maintaining departmental functioning in the absence of Recreation Assistant Level 11.
  • chart /record resident involvement.
  • other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • applicants must have high school graduation and must have a certificate / diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, Social Sciences, Recreation / Kinesiology or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • experience working with residents living in Long Term Care (including those with dementia) and ability to interact with individuals and groups in programs and activities.
  • current certification in CPR.
  • computer experience is necessary.
  • the successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.
  • additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Salary Range:

$27.10 - $29.47 per hour

Bi-Weekly Hours:

75 Hours Bi-Weekly / 8-Hour Shifts, Days, Evenings, and Weekends as Required
