Job summary

AgeCare Ltd. in Ajax, Ontario, is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop, and run a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, community, lifelong learning, and fun.

You will work in a long-term care setting, helping residents stay engaged and participate in programs, with coordination across residents, families, volunteers, and staff.

Qualifications

• Experience working with seniors, preferably in long-term care.
• Post-secondary diploma/degree in recreation and leisure or related field, or enrolled with intent to complete within three years.
• Health-care related qualification with demonstrated recreation planning and documentation skills.

Recreation Worker

In this role, the Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, community, lifelong learning, and fun.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and facilitate daily recreation and leisure activities both in the home and in the community using holistic resident information and choices.
• Create and maintain engaging spaces that support meaningful resident activity and participation.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers, community groups, and agencies.
• Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ ability to participate, updating plans of care as appropriate.
• Support all departments in fostering resident engagement and participation.
• Model leadership by leading programs that maximize residents’ skills and abilities.
• Participate in ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and related quality improvement processes.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long‑term care setting.
• Post‑secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field, or currently enrolled in such a program with intent to complete within three years of hire.
• Or a post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health‑care related field with demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health‑care setting, including planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities, assessment, care planning, documentation, therapeutic programming techniques, and implementation of recreation principles.
• Ability to support others in fostering a culture of resident engagement.

Salary

$23.67 – $25.34 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
