Job summary

Extendicare is hiring a Recreation Aide to support the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents in our Winnipeg facility.

You will collaborate with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director, maintain records, communicate with families and staff, and participate in education and team meetings to enhance resident well-being.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check (within six months) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director.
  • Assist with maintaining department records including assessments and evaluations of planned programs detailing participation.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments.
  • Attend in-service education to stay informed on trends in elderly care.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan activities considering residents' interests.
  • Facilitate residents' scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
  • Assist with assessment of individual resident activity levels and with daily activities.
  • Assist with meal services as required.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
  • Support Extendicare's values and Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
