Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Resident Programs Aide to assist in planning, organizing and implementing meaningful activities for residents in our long-term care facilities. You will work with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director to create engaging programs and monitor participation.

The role requires a college diploma in Recreation or Gerontology, experience with seniors, and strong communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office and a background in healthcare are highly valued.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Previous experience working with seniors is required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• Energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly is required.
• Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check (within six months) or be willing to obtain one.

Resident Programs Aide

Mission:
Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in the planning,organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for theresidents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
• Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments,evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families,volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current andupcoming events;
• Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total careof the elderly;
• Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
• Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
• Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
• Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
• Assisting with meal services as required;
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly toethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;
• Complete other duties as assigned.
