Job summary

West Coast SeniorsHousing Management seeks a Recreation Aide to support holistic activity programs for residents. You will assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating social and therapeutic activities in a respectful, inclusive environment.

Key duties include coordinating calendars, delivering group programs, supporting volunteers, and maintaining safety and documentation in accordance with policies and care standards.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education; recreation-related credential preferred.
• Two-year Recreation Diploma or Health Care Aide with Recreation Certificate.
• Experience with seniors is an asset.
• Dementia course an asset; Serving It Right; Food Safe Level 1 are assets.
• Valid BC Class 4 Driver’s License; vulnerable sector check required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English; good interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer skills: Word, Publisher, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, implementing and evaluating recreation programs.
• Coordinate monthly calendars and newsletters for residents and families.
• Support in developing in-house programs with external groups.
• Provide portering to and from programs as needed and observe resident changes.
• Maintain safety, infection control and documentation per policy.
• Orient new staff and volunteers; assist with program evaluation.
• Maintain statistical records using Activity Pro, Point Click Care, etc.

Aboutthe Role

The Recreation Aide reports to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager/ RecreationManager or designate. This role assists in planning, implementing andevaluating activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of personsserved, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treatedwith respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to;

• Bean engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professionalrelationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture andpurpose.
• Assistsin the development of recreation and leisure services including programresearch development, implementation and evaluation.
• Promotes,publicizes and carries out established recreation programs such as outings,exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, games.
• Assistsin the completion and posting of monthly calendars and newsletters outliningprograms and services available to residents/tenants and families.
• Coordinatesexternal groups to provide in-house programs.
• Assistsresidents and provide portering to and from programs as required
• Observes, documents and reportsany changes in residents to the supervisor and/or nurse.
• Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
  • accident prevention,
  • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
  • thesafe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary,and
  • Utilizinginfection control procedures
• Maintains appropriatedocumentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality and security.
• Actively participates inorientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees andeducational in-services.
• Assistsin the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro,Point Click Care, etc.
• Assists with orientation of newresidents and encourages residents to participate or volunteer in their owncommunity.
• Provides guidance, assistance andsupport to volunteers, while assists in the evaluation of volunteers.
• Performsother related duties as required.

Qualifications& Skills:

• Grade12 Education
• A two-yearRecreation or equivalent Diploma; or at a minimum a Health Care Aide with aRecreation/Activity Certificate.
• Previousexperience in a senior’s focused environment an asset.
• Dementiacourse an asset.
• Serving It Right Certificate.
• Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset
• Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver’s License.
• All successful applicants mustpass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincialguidelines.
• Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
• Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
• Good interpersonal andorganizational skills.
• Basiccomputer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook.
