Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, base location Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, seeks a supervisor for Healthcare Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners in the Biochemistry specimen reception team. You will ensure a high-quality, timely pre-analytical service and lead staff to meet service demands.

The role is permanent and full-time with shift patterns 08:00–20:00, Monday through Sunday, and involves coordinating workloads, mentoring staff, and applying technical knowledge to support

Qualifications

  • HNC, SVQ Level 3, SCQF Level 7 or equivalent qualification in a science subject.
  • Additional theoretical or applied training to diploma-equivalent level.
  • In-depth knowledge of specimen reception duties and procedures.
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical staff support skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support HCSWs and APs in specimen reception.
  • Ensure the provision of a high-quality, timely, cost-efficient pre-analytical service.
  • Organise staff and workloads to maintain an efficient departmental workflow.

Job description

The Role

You will supervise and motivate Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) and Assistant Practitioners (APs) working within specimen reception, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, timely, and cost-efficient pre-analytical service for the Biochemistry Laboratories in South Glasgow.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Permanent, Full-time

Shift Pattern- Monday - Sunday, variable hours between 08:00 - 20:00

Base location - Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support HCSWs and APs in specimen reception.
