Job summary

Bothwell-Accurate is seeking a Re-Roofing Estimator in Ottawa to prepare accurate bids for roof replacement and retrofit projects. You will assess existing roof conditions, consider demolition/disposal costs, and ensure compliance with updated codes.

With 3+ years in roofing estimating and strong knowledge of TPO/EPDM/Modified Bitumen/BUR, you will read blueprints, analyze data, and manage contingencies while coordinating with suppliers, project managers, and the estimating team.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in roofing estimating for re-roofing and retrofit projects.
• Solid knowledge of commercial roofing systems (TPO, EPDM, Modified Bitumen, BUR) and retrofit installation practices.
• Proficient in reading blueprints, drawings, and roof condition reports.
• Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with strong organization.
• Ability to identify hidden costs and plan contingencies for complex retrofit work.
• Effective verbal and written communication; ability to work independently under deadlines.
• Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift) is a plus.

This role requires expertise in assessing current roof conditions, accounting for demolition and disposal costs, identifying potential hidden damage, and ensuring compliance with updated building codes for retrofit projects. What You’ll Do

• Review project plans, specifications, inspection reports, and related documents to prepare accurate estimates for re-roofing projects
• Conduct thorough site visits to assess existing roof conditions, including core cuts and moisture scans as required
• Identify potential structural issues, water damage, and substrate repairs that could affect scope and cost
• Factor in demolition, tear-off, and disposal requirements in all cost breakdowns
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date pricing and availability for retrofit-compatible materials and equipment
• Prepare and present detailed cost breakdowns and bid proposals that include contingency planning for unforeseen issues
• Collaborate closely with project managers, sales, and the estimating team to ensure project goals, schedules, and budgets align
• Track and manage changes to project scope, ensuring estimates remain accurate as new site conditions emerge
• Assist with post-bid reviews and participate in project handoffs to operations to ensure smooth project execution

What You Bring to the Team

• 3+ years of experience in roofing estimating, with specific experience in re-roofing and retrofit projects
• Strong knowledge of commercial roofing systems (e.g., TPO, EPDM, Modified Bitumen, BUR) and their associated installation methods, tear-off methods, and retrofit installation practices
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, drawings, specifications, and existing roof condition reports
• Excellent mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
• Ability to anticipate hidden costs and plan for contingencies in complex retrofit work
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines
• Experience with estimating software is an asset (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, etc.)

• Anticipated Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Salary: $70,000 - $100,000 (Based on experience)
• Pay Schedule: Paid bi-weekly, every second Friday
• Reports To: Re-Roofing Estimating Manager
