Job summary

Alstom in Whitby, Ontario is seeking a full-time Installation Welding Specialist to perform stick welding (SMAW) on various metals and support onboard installation projects.

You will read blueprints, prepare materials, ensure safety and quality, and collaborate with engineering, installation and safety teams to meet project timelines.

Compensation ranges from CAD 65,000 to 80,000 per year plus benefits and an annual bonus, with base consideration tied to experience.

Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in mechanical/industrial field.
• OSSD or equivalent educational background.
• Experience or understanding of welding systems for rail/transit/heavy vehicles.
• Knowledge of technical drawings, welding symbols and metalworking processes.
• Familiarity with EHS protocols including LOTO and PPE usage.
• Welding certification (CWB/AWS) or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality welding and fabrication tasks for onboard projects.
• Read blueprints and welding specifications to guide work.
• Prepare materials and surfaces for welding (cleaning, cutting, grinding).
• Operate and maintain welding machinery and tools safely.
• Inspect welds for quality and compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project timelines.
• Assist with mechanical installations, retrofits, and process improvements.
