Job summary

Sperry Rail Service is seeking a field-based CDL Driver to operate hi-rail trucks and detector cars across Canada, supporting rail flaw detection testing and data collection. This role requires extensive travel (3-4 months at a time) and strict adherence to DOT and safety regulations.

You will perform pre/post-trip inspections, maintain equipment, and communicate with the crew via radio. Travel and lodging are paid by Sperry, with overtime opportunities and a strong team-driven culture.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class 5 or higher with air brake endorsement.
• Pass health assessment including drug screen, audiogram, and physical abilities test, and background check.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3–4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Operate hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars on roadways and tracks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain DOT compliance.
• Assist with rail flaw detection testing and data collection.
• Monitor and interpret data on onboard computer systems.
• Carry out ground-level rail inspections using handheld equipment.
• Assist with repair and maintenance of equipment and ensure vehicle cleanliness.
