Job summary

Sperry Rail Service is seeking a field-based CDL Driver for extensive travel across Canada. The role operates hi-rail vehicles, supports testing operations, and ensures DOT compliance, with 3-4 month rotations at multiple sites.

Responsibilities include vehicle inspections, data collection, and maintaining safety standards while coordinating with railroad personnel. Travel and lodging are covered by Sperry. The position offers overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class 5 or higher with air brake endorsement.
• Ability to pass health assessment, including drug screen and physical abilities test.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
• 2+ years of commercial driving experience.
• High School Diploma or CAEC and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3–4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Perform all work in the field in varied weather conditions.
• Operate hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars and ensure DOT compliance.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Assist with rail flaw detection testing and data collection.
• Monitor data on onboard systems and communicate effectively with the crew.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety, and complete required training.
