Job summary

TRIUMF, Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, offers a Radiation Protection Group student position on the UBC Vancouver campus. You will contribute to radiation simulations, install detectors, and analyze calibration data using ROOT, then report findings.

Period January 2027–April 2027; salary ranges from 2,815 to 4,238 CAD per month with 4% vacation pay. Travel-cost support is provided for students outside the area.

Qualifications

• The candidate should be enrolled in a Physics, Engineering Physics or Computing Science program.
• Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of programming in C/C++ (or other relevant languages (Python, JAVA...)).
• Personal interest in the field of nuclear physics, environmental radiation or other related fields.
• Basic understanding of electronics.
• No experience outside academia is required.

Responsibilities

• Implementing geometries to perform numerical simulations with existing radiation simulation codes in order to evaluate the shielding designs of future TRIUMF facilities.
• Installing and commissioning of radiation detectors and monitors.
• Analyzing of experimental data from calibration tests using ROOT (C++ framework).
• Implementing known mathematical models to fit the data.
• Provide reports.
