Job summary

TRIUMF Innovations Inc. seeks a student to design a recoil particle-identification detector for the DRAGON focal plane.

You will perform CAD design, 3D printing, and assemble a double-sided silicon strip detector to a microchannel plate and electrostatic mirror assembly, then install the device and run tests with radioactive sources to verify performance. You will work closely with DRAGON postdocs and graduate students, keeping a progress log and learning through seminars and hands-on projects

Qualifications

  • 1-2 year's experience in a physics or engineering physics degree.
  • Experience with CAD design and 3D printing concepts.
  • Coding in Python or C++ is advantageous; Mathematica is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design a new recoil particle-identification detector concept for DRAGON.
  • Create CAD models and 3D-printed components and assemble to MSP.
  • Install at the DRAGON focal plane and test with radioactive sources.

This will consist of design, including CAD and 3D printing, to attach a double-sided silicon strip detector to a microchannel plate and electrostatic mirror assembly. They will then assemble and install the device at the DRAGON focal plane and run tests using radioactive sources to verify the functionality of the device and characterize its response.**Responsibilities:**The student will work on a daily basis with DRAGON group postdocs and graduate students both in the lab and via computer work. They will be expected to keep a written log of their progress.**Qualifications**:1-2 year's experience in a physics or engineering physics degree.**Experience:**Coding in either python, c++ an advantage. Use of spreadsheets & document processing.
