Job description

R&D Technician

Mangrove Lithium, a Vancouver-based company, has developed a breakthrough platform for the most cost-effective production of battery-grade lithium hydroxide and carbonate from diverse input streams and assets. Mangrove’s modular solution can be scaled to any capacity and co-located with upstream lithium producers or cathode and cell manufacturers. The platform technology is being commercialized for the conversion of waste brines to chemicals and desalinated water. The company recently attracted funding through Breakthrough Energy, BMW i Ventures, and BDC Capital, and is working towards the deployment of a first-of-a-kind commercial plant.

Position

We are looking for a dedicated R&D Technician to be responsible for conducting tests using electrochemical cells. In this role, you will conduct performance tests on electrochemical cells, analyze data, and contribute to material characterization and analytical chemistry efforts. The Technician will be fully responsible for testing, analyzing data, and providing updates to the team. This role is critical to the success of our research and development efforts across a range of technical projects.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct experiments on bench-scale electrochemical cells.
  2. Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents for conducting tests and advise and coordinate test procedures.
  3. Support R&D projects involving process development and material characterization.
  4. Determine chemical and physical properties, compositions of solutions.
  5. Identify and solve process and equipment problems.
  6. Assist in developing and optimizing analytical protocols for new materials and processes.
  7. Perform regular calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support process or product development and optimization.
  9. Confer with scientists and engineers to analyze, interpret, and develop tests.
  10. Write technical reports and prepare standards and specifications for processes, tests, and products.
  11. Maintain laboratory instruments, troubleshoot malfunctions, and purchase supplies.
  12. Evaluate and ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and standards.

Salary range: $60K - $80K depending on experience and skills.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience
  1. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening shifts and weekends.
  2. Associate degree in chemical technology or related fields preferred.
  3. 1+ years of laboratory or industrial experience.
  4. Hands-on experience with instrumental and wet analytical techniques.
  5. Experience in chemical analysis and electrochemical cells.
  6. Self-motivated, proactive, flexible, and passionate about learning; willing to be hands-on.
  7. Ability to interact with scientists and engineers.
