Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the QA Inspector will report to the Manufacturing Manager of the Quality Department. The QA Inspector will be responsible for inspecting and testing bus duct, low and medium voltage motor control, and low and medium voltage switchgear and PCR/E-Houses. The QA Inspector will also perform these tests for Powell Customers and/or their representatives during witnessed customer inspections.
Essential Responsibilities
- Monitor in-shop electrical operations and conduct visual inspections.
- Inspect and test all equipment manufactured at Powell facilities according to Powell Standards.
- Perform skid inspections for structural, dimensional, visual welding & paint defects as per customer requirements.
- Install, program, and operate electronic equipment such as relays, OBR, PLCs, HMIs, etc.
- Power up Powell Electrical Products and other buyout equipment with safety procedures and pre-commissioning checks, including Transformers, Service Panels, HVAC, Battery Chargers, UPS System, etc.
- Conduct equipment failure investigations and root cause analysis.
- Perform all aspects of inspection activities with minimal supervision.
- Ensure the latest revisions of quality documents are available and utilized during work.
- Complete and maintain all test Quality Control documentation as required.
- Perform maintenance and calibration on test equipment as needed.
- Identify and issue non-conformance reports to the Manufacturing Manager, using various measuring and testing methods, and assist in determining corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Interact with all departments (shop, engineering, sales, shipping, fabrication, PCR, switchgear) and customers to resolve quality issues.
- Coordinate with customers and QC inspectors for shop problem resolution and Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Record engineering and shop discrepancies and shortages.
- Participate in continuous process improvement and cost control, following quality policies and standards.
- Organize and implement quality control systems and processes, providing feedback to the Manufacturing Manager.
- Promote a safety culture and attend safety meetings.
- Follow standard work instructions to ensure quality and identify potential risks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Other duties as required.

Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering, BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent (Journeyman Electrician ticket is an asset).
- 0-3 years’ experience in manufacturing.
- Familiarity with test equipment such as multimeters, clamp-on meters, voltage detectors, Hi-Pots, etc.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards.
- Basic Electrical Theory and Mechanical experience.
- Ability to read prints, including specifications, wiring diagrams, schematics, and drawings.
- Knowledge of policy writing and administration.
- Safety training certificates are an asset.
- Pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing required due to safety sensitivity.
Working Conditions
- Temperature-controlled manufacturing environment with occasional outdoor activities.
- Mandatory use of PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses, respirators).
- Desk and computer work in an office environment.
- Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding, including heights up to 30 feet.
Physical Requirements
- Maintain body balance and agility.
- Repetitive bending, crouching, and arm movements.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Climb stairs frequently.
- Work with arms above shoulders and apply force up to 50 lbs.
- Use hand tools for long durations with repetition.
