Job summary

NWI Precision in Toronto is seeking a Quality Engineering Supervisor to lead our Quality Engineering and Inspection teams. You will ensure compliance with customer specifications and regulatory standards (AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, CSA N299) while driving continuous improvement and a zero-defects culture across manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Process Engineering; advanced degrees or ASQ certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quality engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years inspection experience with CMM, visual and mechanical systems in aerospace/nuclear/manufactured environments.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory leadership experience in aerospace manufacturing in North America.

Responsibilities

  • Support supplier qualification, audits and performance management.
  • Manage key quality metrics and lead Kaizen projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Supervise and mentor Quality Engineers and Technicians to ensure adherence to inspection protocols.

Job description

NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components used in the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. NWI Precision’s 120,000 sq. ft. facility is located at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto. Our dedicated team prides themselves on delivering the highest quality products, to specifications and on time.

NWI Precision is seeking an experienced Quality Engineering Supervisor to lead our Quality Engineering/Inspection team. This role combines quality engineering expertise with supervisory oversight of quality inspection activities, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, regulatory standards (AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, CSA N299), and internal quality policies. The QE Supervisor will mentor team members, drive continuous improvement, and champion a culture of zero defects across manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
Quality Engineering:
  • Implement, and maintain quality plans for production processes for new and existing products 100% compliant.
  • Lead new product introduction (NPI), First Article Inspections (FAI/FAIR), and change control verification processes.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify failures, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective and preventive actions (8D, RCCA).
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure proper quality controls are applied and effective.
  • Maintain company quality documentation, lead training sessions, and support AS9100 quality management system activities, including audits.
  • Support supplier qualification, audits, and performance management.
  • Initiate, track and report key quality metrics (yield, defects, NCRs), leading cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives and Kaizen projects.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of Quality Engineers and Technicians to ensure adherence to inspection protocols and production schedules.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain inspection processes and procedures to meet aerospace and nuclear standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage CAR and develop a Continuous Improvement process and culture in the organization
  • Manage, monitor and reduce Cost of non quality
Quality Inspection:
  • Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspections, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and nuclear documentation standards.
  • Manage non-conformances, participate in root cause investigations, and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Coordinate source inspections and ensure readiness for customer and regulatory audits.
  • Monitor inspection equipment calibration and maintenance, ensuring reliability and accuracy.
  • Analyze inspection data, generate reports, and present findings to senior management to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support reduction of NCR related to process
  • Continuously challenge and improve the system to increase productivity and efficiency overtime
  • Create flexibility, succession planning and talent development increasing employees’ skills overtime
  • Manage inspections and dispositions to support 100% target on OTD to customers
  • Support and lead Kaizen events in the shop in a team environment.
  • Reduce Cost of Non-Quality month over month
  • Eliminate Returned material from customers
  • Run weekly Kaizen events to develop Continuous Improvement projects
  • Reduce Cost of scrap material month over month
  • Increase efficiency in Inspection department and Quality Engineering activities
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Process Engineering; advanced degrees or ASQ certifications (CQE, CQM, CQA, Six Sigma Black Belt) preferred.
  • Must have minimum 5 years of experience in quality engineering
  • Must have minimum 2 years inspection experience with CMM, visual and mechanical systems within aerospace, nuclear, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Must have minimum 2 years of supervisory leadership experience in Aerospace manufacturing in North America.
  • Black Belt Six Sigma certification nice to have
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, CSA N299, and related regulatory standards.
  • Good knowledge in PPAP, APQP, MSA, SPC, FMEA, Control Plans, and other quality tools.
  • Highly Proficient with inspection tools and techniques (CMM, micrometers, calipers, NDT, contour tracer).
  • ERP system experience is an asset; strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills; ability to manage multiple projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with nuclear documentation practices, source inspections, and special processes is highly valued.
