Job summary

Magna International is seeking a Quality Engineer to lead internal and supplier quality initiatives for its Exteriors group. You will analyze trends, drive continuous improvement, and interface with manufacturing and engineering to support design-to-launch activities. Strong problem-solving, Six Sigma, and reading blueprints are essential.

Applicants should have an Engineering degree and 3-5 years of auto industry experience. Travel may be required; proficiency in English is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or comparable post-secondary education or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years in an automotive environment (GM, Ford, Stellantis-Chrysler, Honda and Toyota, Tesla, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes).
  • Experience with PPAP submissions, OEM launch process, TRAX, ChangeX, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (English – spoken and written).
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability in a production environment using scientific and statistical techniques.
  • Six Sigma experience or knowledge of process and tools required.
  • Familiar with APQP (GD&T, DOE, SPC, DFMEA-PFMEA, Control plans).
  • ISO/TS16949 auditing experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze internal (trends, scrap, SPC) and customer data to drive continuous improvement actions.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing to implement CI on new and mature products.
  • Present corrective action plans to customers.
  • Work with Product Engineering from design to final program launch.
  • Lead TRAX, ChangeX and related quality initiatives.
  • Implement quality systems and CI practices across projects.
  • Develop timelines and ensure timely completion of quality requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement Engineering Change Proposals.
  • Analyze E-coat/ powder coat processes and quality.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for coating-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Execute soft launch strategies with exit plans.
  • Support Magna Exteriors’ commitment to Awareness, Unity, Empowerment.

The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets. Job Responsibilities:

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB:

  • Immediate opening - $80,000 - $95,000 annual compensation
  • Engineering degree or comparable post-secondary education or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years in an automotive environment (GM, Ford, Stellantis-Chrysler, Honda and Toyota, Tesla, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes)
  • Experienced in PPAP submissions, OEM launch process, TRAX, ChangeX etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (English - spoken and written)
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability in a production environment using scientific and statistical techniques
  • Six Sigma experience or knowledge of process and tools required
  • Proficiency in problem solving process and customer responses – G-car/SPPS, NCT, QR etc.
  • Must have previous experience managing a customer base from a quality perspective
  • Ability to read blueprints and proven competency with standard metrology tools
  • Computer proficiency to include experience with Microsoft, Project, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Manufacturing process experience relative to high production OEM environment required
  • Must be familiar with automotive physical, performance and appearance testing
  • Must be familiar with APQP (GD&T, DOE., SPC, DFMEA-PFMEA, Control plans, etc.)
  • ISO/TS16949 – Auditing experience
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills regarding overall workload scheduling
  • Willingness and availability to travel
  • E-coat/ powder coat knowledge as an asset
MAIN DUTIES:
  • Analysis of internal (trends, scrap, SPC, etc) and customer (warranty, PPM, returns, etc) to drive actions focused on continuous improvement
  • Interface with Manufacturing to implement continuous improvement opportunities on new and mature products (lead or drive initiatives on the plant floor)
  • Interface with customer and present corrective action plan
  • Interface with Product Engineering from initial design to final launch of program
  • CFT responsibilities, TRAX, ChangeX
  • Implement quality systems, CofQ Analysis and CI implementation
  • Develop timelines and ensure timely completion of all quality requirements
  • Evaluate and implement Engineering Change Proposals
  • E-coat/ powder coat process and quality analysis
  • Root cause analysis for EPP foam/ e-coat/ powder coat quality issue and drive systemic corrective actions
  • Implement soft launch strategy with exit plan
