Job Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring company standards are met on each shift. The QC Technician (I) works alongside production, logistics and maintenance staff to support the production of high quality, safe and legal product.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Sample products at various stages of processing, including pH test and water activity.
  2. Examine finished products by sight, taste and weight to ensure conformance to company and legal standards.
  3. Perform routine checks for product packaging quality, including date codes, film seal and palletizing formation.
  4. Monitor metal detector and x-ray machines.
  5. Check outgoing shipments for quality and verify orders are correct.
  6. Calibrate equipment daily, including pH meter, refractometer, ATP meter, water activity meter, and table scales.
  7. Verify cleaning and sanitation of production equipment.
  8. Perform pre-operation inspections at start of production.
  9. Assist in managing hold and release of non-conforming product.
  10. Assist QA Manager in maintaining plant certification for SQF, organic, Kosher, peanut-free, gluten-free (GFCO standards), and non-GMO.
  11. Assist production where required.
  12. Strong attention to detail, sense of urgency, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  13. Must adhere to and enforce all Good Manufacturing Practices and Safety Policies.
  14. Responsible for Food Safety and reporting any non-compliance issues to their immediate supervisor.
  15. Comply with all SunOpta Quality and food safety standards, HACCP, GMPs, Organic, GFCO, SQF, Kosher certificate and customer requirements.
  16. Wear Personal Protective Equipment when required.
  17. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School diploma.
  • Prior experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to use critical thinking to plan and problem-solve.
  • Experience with Oracle preferred.
  • Good verbal, written and multi-tasking skills, can-do attitude.

Additional Considerations:

The location for this role is in St. Davids, Ontario.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • 100% of the work is performed in a production environment.
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts: days, afternoons, nights.
  • Must be available to work weekends.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for the majority of the shift.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or with a team.
  • Competency in performing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Must have reliable transportation (location is off bus route).
