HUB Water and Wastewater Process Technician

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization providing technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario. We aim to enhance quality of life, promote self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth within these communities.
OFNTSC is seeking a HUB Water & Wastewater Process Technician to support the OFNTSC HUB Supervisor. This role involves up to 90% travel weekly, requiring flexibility and mobility.
Responsibilities must align with OFNTSC's culture and values, maintaining strict confidentiality.

Key Duties
- Provide onsite operator support to ensure provincial regulatory compliance and health & safety standards for water and wastewater treatment in Ontario’s First Nations communities.
- Implement operations and maintenance practices, utilizing tracking software, and applying analytical, problem-solving, planning, and scheduling skills to monitor and adjust processes and resolve operational issues.
- Analyze data to monitor performance against legal requirements, resolve compliance issues, and meet OFNTSC HUB targets.
- Share knowledge on environmental compliance, including relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, and their impact on water and wastewater systems.
- Advise and guide internal and external contacts on technical compliance; facilitate training for First Nations operations staff.
- Support compliance documentation for major maintenance projects.
- Evaluate operational status and compliance of water/wastewater treatment systems.
- Assist in procurement processes and procedures.
- Apply and interpret legislated water and wastewater programs, ensuring adherence to internal operational standards.
Qualifications
- Mandatory Class II certification in Water Treatment and/or Wastewater Treatment, or registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
- Alternatively, candidates with a Class I license under O.Reg. 128/04 or O.Reg. 129/04 may be considered.
- Post-secondary education in engineering or environmental disciplines.
- Strong time management, initiative, and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Extensive knowledge of water/wastewater operations, environmental compliance, and health & safety standards.
- Experience with SCADA systems, Microsoft Office, and auditing/inspection skills.
- Excellent written communication skills for technical reporting.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel extensively across Ontario.
- Must obtain or maintain Class II water treatment certification within one year.
- Minimum five years of progressive maintenance experience.
