HUB Water and Wastewater Process Technician

Location: Remote

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization providing technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario. We aim to enhance quality of life, promote self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth within these communities.

OFNTSC is seeking a HUB Water & Wastewater Process Technician to support the OFNTSC HUB Supervisor. This role involves up to 90% travel weekly, requiring flexibility and mobility.

Responsibilities must align with OFNTSC's culture and values, maintaining strict confidentiality.

Key Duties
  1. Provide onsite operator support to ensure provincial regulatory compliance and health & safety standards for water and wastewater treatment in Ontario’s First Nations communities.
  2. Implement operations and maintenance practices, utilizing tracking software, and applying analytical, problem-solving, planning, and scheduling skills to monitor and adjust processes and resolve operational issues.
  3. Analyze data to monitor performance against legal requirements, resolve compliance issues, and meet OFNTSC HUB targets.
  4. Share knowledge on environmental compliance, including relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, and their impact on water and wastewater systems.
  5. Advise and guide internal and external contacts on technical compliance; facilitate training for First Nations operations staff.
  6. Support compliance documentation for major maintenance projects.
  7. Evaluate operational status and compliance of water/wastewater treatment systems.
  8. Assist in procurement processes and procedures.
  9. Apply and interpret legislated water and wastewater programs, ensuring adherence to internal operational standards.
Qualifications
  1. Mandatory Class II certification in Water Treatment and/or Wastewater Treatment, or registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  2. Alternatively, candidates with a Class I license under O.Reg. 128/04 or O.Reg. 129/04 may be considered.
  3. Post-secondary education in engineering or environmental disciplines.
  4. Strong time management, initiative, and ability to work independently or in a team.
  5. Extensive knowledge of water/wastewater operations, environmental compliance, and health & safety standards.
  6. Experience with SCADA systems, Microsoft Office, and auditing/inspection skills.
  7. Excellent written communication skills for technical reporting.
  8. Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel extensively across Ontario.
  9. Must obtain or maintain Class II water treatment certification within one year.
  10. Minimum five years of progressive maintenance experience.

  • Availability for after-hours emergency responses and on-call duties.
