Job summary

OTI Food Products, based in Acme, Alberta, is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Technician to support laboratory testing, quality control, and raw-material evaluation in our flour milling operations. The successful candidate will perform routine analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with QC procedures.

Strong Excel skills and meticulous lab work are essential.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a college diploma or university degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology or a related discipline.
  • Experience with sample preparation, microscopy, microbiological analysis and laboratory testing.
  • Knowledge of moisture and protein analysis is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and laboratory data analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate laboratory records.
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory testing and quality-control checks on raw materials, in-process samples and finished products.
  • Collect, label, prepare and organize samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Perform moisture, protein and microbiological analyses according to established procedures.
  • Operate laboratory equipment including microscopes, centrifuges, analytical balances, pH meters, pipettes, ovens/incubators and autoclaves.
  • Perform laboratory procedures including electrophoresis and DNA isolation when required.
  • Prepare microscope slides and conduct observations of biological materials.
  • Follow sterile and aseptic laboratory procedures to prevent contamination. Record, organize and analyze laboratory results using Microsoft Excel.
  • Identify and report abnormal or inconsistent test results to production or quality personnel.
  • Assist with investigations related to raw-material and product-quality issues.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a clean, organized and sanitary condition.
  • Follow laboratory safety, sanitation and quality-control procedures.
  • Coordinate with production and quality-assurance teams to support daily operations.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate laboratory and quality-control records and reports.

Job description

We are a growing flour milling and food production company based in Acme, Alberta. Our operations focus on grain processing and flour production, with continued expansion in domestic and international markets.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Technician to support laboratory testing, quality control and raw-material evaluation within our flour milling operations. The ideal candidate holds formal education in a relevant scientific discipline and has practical laboratory experience involving plant materials, sample preparation, testing and analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with production and quality personnel to monitor raw materials, in-process samples and finished products. A strong understanding of plant biology and hands-on laboratory experience will be considered particularly valuable for the evaluation of wheat and grain-based products.
