JOB SUMMARY:
Lantic is currently recruiting for the position of Quality Assurance Technician based at our Vancouver Refinery. The position reports to the Manager, Quality Assurance, Food Safety & Environment. The incumbent is a self-motivated, conscientious worker that is team-oriented and prioritizes assuring that the product meets food safety, quality, and environmental requirements. The employee performs a variety of functions including sample collection of in-process and final products; chemical, physical, and microbial analysis; environmental sampling and testing; Certificates of Analyses generation and distribution to customers; putting non-compliant products on hold and investigating non-conformances; responding to customer inquiries and investigating complaints; participating in the HACCP team; creating monthly reports for management; and reviewing and updating laboratory documentation. Typical working hours are dayshift although some flexibility will be required as there will be once a week early morning shift and some amount of (paid) weekend work. The employee follows a set of processes to ensure adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety rules, and product quality standards with personal and team safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sample products and perform all tests required to generate Certificates of Analyses on a daily basis;
- Sample and test environmental effluents to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations;
- Equipment calibration and troubleshooting;
- Work independently for one (1) 3am-11am shift/week;
- Put non-conforming products on hold;
- Perform data entry, compile monthly reports and convert physical records into digital reports;
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints;
- Investigate issues of non-conformance;
- Communicate with and support all required departments as needed;
- Participate in the HACCP team and maintain HACCP documentation;
- Maintain a clean laboratory environment;
- Any other QA/QC activities when required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Technology or engineering or related Science field (including Chemical or Environmental engineering, Microbiology, Biology, or Biotechnology);
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a food process, quality assurance or related industry laboratory;
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office suite (intermediate to advanced);
- Knowledge of Maximo, Navision and/or SharePoint (an asset);
- Proficient in English (spoken and written);
- Good knowledge of HACCP and GFSI recognized schemes is an asset;
- Safety conscious and possess understanding of safety rules;
- Strong sense of responsibility;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Good planning and organizational skills;
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks;
WORKING CONDITIONS (OFFICE/PLANT, TRAVELING, ON CALL, ETC):
