Job summary

Govan Brown in Toronto is seeking an experienced Construction QA/QC Manager to uphold high quality standards across ICI projects. You will lead QA/QC initiatives with project and site teams, promote best practices, and drive continuous improvement to ensure excellent client outcomes.

You will design and manage QA/QC programs for local and national projects, typically on assignments above $5M, coordinating with management and subcontractors, while prioritizing safety and documentation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction management experience.
  • QA/QC experience in commercial construction and interior fit-ups.
  • Post-secondary degree in CM/Architecture/Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and codes.
  • Strong leadership and accountability for teams.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Tech-savvy with Office, Bluebeam, PlanGrid.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and oversee a formal QA/QC program at local and national levels.
  • Develop, deliver, and monitor quality standards from pre-construction through project closeout (>$5M).
  • Partner with Project and Site Management to implement quality plans.
  • Review project docs and sign-offs to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct QA/QC audits and analyze KPIs.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance assessment and related docs.
  • Manage closeout, deficiency punch lists, and retention of records.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Capture lessons learned and share findings with teams.

OUR OPPORTUNITY

Govan Brown is looking for an experienced Construction QA/QC Manager to maintain and advance the standards of quality that define our ICI projects. Partnering closely with project management and site management teams, you will lead quality initiatives, promote best practices, and drive continuous improvement to ensure excellence at every stage of project delivery. Through collaboration, leadership, and a commitment to quality, you will help deliver exceptional project outcomes and uphold the level of client satisfaction that Govan Brown is well known for.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design, implement, and oversee a formal QA/QC program at both the local and national levels.
  • Develop, deliver, and monitor quality standards from pre-construction through project closeout, typically on projects valued at $5M and above.
  • Partner with Project and Site Management teams to ensure quality plans are developed and implemented for applicable projects.
  • Monitor the development and integration of quality procedures into projects, including the ongoing review of project documentation and required sign-offs.
  • Conduct quality control audits to ensure standards are being met, including the collection and analysis of QA/QC Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee the subcontractor performance assessment program and complete related documentation.
  • Monitor project closeout and deficiency punch list processes to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Manage the storage and retention of quality records and documentation.
  • Monitor the legal, contractual, and financial aspects of construction projects and develop strategies to mitigate potential risks and challenges.
  • Track project lessons learned and After Action Reviews (AARs), share findings with project teams to support continuous improvement, and maintain a database for future reference.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 5+ years of construction management experience.
  • Related QA/QC experience within the commercial construction and interior fit-up industry.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems, processes, codes, and standards relevant to building construction.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively hold teams accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to develop productive working relationships with key project stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with a proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive recommendations for change.
  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, and project management software.

YOUR ESTIMATED SALARY

This role offers an annual salary between $115,000 to $140,000 depending on experience and qualifications, with final compensation thoughtfully tailored in the offer stage.

YOUR WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
  • Office location is 108 Vine Avenue, Toronto. This is not a hybrid or remote role.
  • This role is primarily site-based and requires regular exposure to active construction environments in all seasons.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
