Job description

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Quality Assurance Manager who values effective communication and contributes to a harmonious workplace to join their team. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for strict adherence to the BRCGS Food Safety Management System, including the HACCP Program. This position is also responsible for ensuring that customer requirements and all regulatory requirements are met.

The individual in this position must maintain current knowledge and expertise on other certification schemes, e.g. Organic / Gluten Free etc. as it applies to their business and provide leadership and guidance to other staff in the organization, where everyone is responsible for quality and safety. This role will also directly manage the QA Technician as required.

Duties & Responsibilities :

The following list of duties and responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Manager is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the job described. Rather they are intended only to describe the general nature of the job.

  • Responsible for planning, developing, initiating, coordinating, implementing and maintaining the most effective procedures for optimum quality assurance and control;
  • Oversee the implementation and compliance of all HACCP related requirements;
  • Manage and assure full execution of the Food safety and Quality Assurance programs;
  • Develop and initiate standards and procedure for inspections, auditing, testing, evaluations, and compliance with food safety program;
  • Lead Internal Audit Programs, including knowledge and experience with current BRC audit guidelines;
  • Train & retrain employees for various tasks and Good Manufacturing Practices, including Critical Control Points (CCP);
  • Develop and implement procedures for disposition and consumer complaints;
  • Interact with other departments to develop food safety training programs;
  • Responsible to review and approve required paperwork and documentation created by the various departments : production, sanitation, maintenance;
  • Manage microbiological and allergen testing program as applicable for ingredients, materials, and production;
  • Recommend and implement corrective and preventative measures to improve product safety and quality standards;
  • Supervise and motivate the team of QA Technician and conducting performance reviews;
  • Monitor suppliers’ compliance for ALL incoming raw materials and ingredients with respect to food safety and quality;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or a related field
  • Qualified and highly experienced in BRCGS Food Safety
  • Successfully implemented BRCGS systems and led successful certification audits
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of Allergen Management Systems
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance, food processing, food industry HACCP, and quality management systems
  • Experience working in Ready to Eat nuts / produce processing plant would be an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office computer programs (Excel and Word)
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Ability to assess and prioritize, provide leadership, team building and have stellar interpersonal skills
  • Ability to accurately maintain detailed records
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, employees, and supervisors
  • Success-driven, have a “can do” attitude, dependable and reliable
