Job summary

commonsku is seeking a QA Automation Engineer Co-op for September to December 2026. This remote-first role supports the R&D team by building automated testing for features before they go into production, maintaining product quality, and collaborating with product and engineering teammates.

Open to Ontario students who can onboard in the first week and attend occasional in-office days at our midtown Toronto headquarters.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience or coursework involving database-driven web application testing and version control (Git).
  • Exposure to TypeScript and testing frameworks such as Playwright or Selenium.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document automated test plans and test cases for new and existing features based on requirements.
  • Document and report bugs, failures, and test results clearly and consistently.
  • Learn and contribute to automated test scripts as opportunities arise.
  • Collaborate with developers and designers to understand features and ensure QA standards.
  • Execute manual, exploratory, system, functional, integration, regression, and smoke testing under supervision.
  • Communicate testing status and findings to support a positive customer experience.

About the Role

QA Automation Engineer Co‑op – September to December 2026. The role supports the Research & Development team by building automated testing for features before they go into production, maintaining product quality, and collaborating closely with product and engineering teammates.

Responsibilities
  • Design and document automated test plans and test cases for new and existing features based on requirements and specifications.
  • Document and report bugs, failures, and test results clearly and consistently, and support the investigation and re‑testing of defects.
  • Learn and contribute to automated test scripts as opportunities arise.
  • Collaborate with developers and designers to understand features, flag potential issues, and ensure the team meets acceptance criteria and QA standards.
  • Execute manual, exploratory, system, functional, integration, regression, and smoke testing under the guidance of senior QA team members.
  • Communicate testing status and findings to the team regularly to support a positive customer experience.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Practical experience or coursework involving database‑driven web application testing and software version control systems (Git).
  • Exposure to or hands‑on experience with TypeScript and integration test frameworks such as Playwright or Selenium.
  • Collaborative approach to software quality with strong communication skills.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple overlapping priorities effectively.
  • Comfort working independently and asynchronously while prioritizing collaboration.
  • Experience or enthusiasm for working with AI.
Compensation & Perks

Co‑op students earn a monthly salary ranging from $3,800 to $4,500 CAD, based on the number of co‑op work terms completed.
