Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

This position ensures that we have all supplies on-site when required, at the best value. This team is responsible for all aspects of our supplies inventory, quality and partnerships, except for maintenance and capital purchases. Through diligent focus and supervision of the purchasing team, they work with our trusted partners to ensure that we provide our operations with all they need.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS / ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement the strategic plan for the purchasing department
  • Prepare and execute the annual business plan
  • Lead and supervise purchasing roles, resolving problems, conducting training, and setting schedules
  • Create and implement a talent plan to continue to build the department
  • Lead cross functional teams to co-ordinate requested packaging changes and recommend and implement based on cost analysis.
  • Source materials and develop the negotiation strategy for new contracts
  • Oversee day-to-day procurement and make recommendations regarding price and supply changes.
  • Oversee budgeting for packaging inventory requirements
  • Create a distribution plan and strategy to optimize the management of inventory and supplies
  • Lead quarterly reviews with major suppliers to discuss improvements and potential opportunities to strengthen our partnerships
  • Work with the Packaging Inventory team and Finance team look for opportunities to improve invoice processing and receiving
  • Prepare recommendations and maintain financial records to proactively highlight budget concerns
  • Monitor and report performance against plans and ensure proper execution
  • Co-ordinate with operations to complete product trials
  • Responsible for monitoring and tracking contract terms and expiration dates
  • Assess options to optimize our processes and the potential of new systems or tools

Other Tasks:

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects

Personal Development:

  • Attend company required training
  • Remain current with trends and technical knowledge in areas of responsibility
  • Attend regular 1:1 coaching/update sessions
  • Develop a strong understanding of our production process and systems to ensure the most efficient tracking of our products
  • Develop a strong relationship with Shipping, Operations, Quality and Finance functions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-7 years of experience
  • Previous purchasing or production supervision experience is required
  • Post-secondary education required
  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload and lead a team
  • Proactive problem solver with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong negotiation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work in a team-oriented environment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lead a team with staff that covers evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel to support both our Cambridge and Breslau locations

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires occasional work on the production floor with full PPE, tracking inventory and working with Operations teams on trouble shooting and projects
