Position Overview

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Purchasing Agent plays a key role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials and services for our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in supply chain management, proficiency in Viewpoint, and a strong background in electrical construction.

This position is ideal for candidates based near a Canem branch office on Vancouver Island or in Edmonton, Alberta.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, equipment, and services for projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and favorable terms.
  • Select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and schedule considerations.
  • Monitor and evaluate contract performance for compliance and necessary amendments.
  • Manage purchase orders and procurement records using Viewpoint.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies.
  • Analyze market trends for potential cost savings and process improvements.
  • Conduct cost and risk analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Assess and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Coordinate with project teams on quality and procurement issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive procurement records.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to forecast and schedule material needs.
  • Manage supplier relationships, resolve issues, and foster continuous improvement.
  • Create accurate purchase orders and procurement documentation.
  • Implement procurement strategies aligned with project timelines and requirements.
  • Track and maintain supplier performance metrics.
  • Assist Estimating team with RFX packages for proposals.
  • Coordinate with site teams to meet procurement needs.
What We Are Looking For
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or related fields, preferably in construction.
  • Knowledge of electrical construction materials, equipment, and standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or electrical trade (preferred).
  • SMT or SCMP designation is highly desirable or enrollment in the SCMP program.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills for record-keeping and order tracking.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to handle disputes with suppliers effectively.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with high standards.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

As per Section 2 of the BC Pay Transparency Act, this position offers a salary range of $60,000 - $70,000 per year.
